Neck pain may be frustrating; by paying more attention to how you do things you can prevent neck pain. Neck pain is caused by strains in the neck muscles.
Below are simple ways to avoid straining the muscles in your neck.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Do not sit in the same position for long periods of time. Practice keeping your neck straight not tilled. Do not hunch over the computer. Roll your neck from side to side to prevent stiffness and encourage circulation and flexibility, while working at the computer, or sitting at your office desk.

  2. Step 2

The way you sleep is one of the most important things you need to consider when looking to cure neck pains. If your pillow is too high it can cause neck pain. Try sleeping without a pillow to see how it improves your pain, and then try purchasing a pillow that can help ease neck pain. You can purchase one at any mattress store.

  3. Step 3

By items that are neck friendly, tools that keep you from bending your neck for long periods at a time. Example: Instead of talking with your cell phone use a head phone set, if you are breastfeeding by a pillow so it will be more comfortable. Looking down at your baby can put a strain on your neck this way it will be more relaxing.

  4. Step 4

When you need to move something, bend your hips and knees when you lift items. This way you can prevent any strains and muscle being pulled.

  5. Step 5

For pain relief try icy hot cream, a heating pad, or a hot shower to ease the ache, heat will loosen tight muscles. If there is any swelling apply an ice pack to the area. Time is the best remedy for neck pain. If you can avoid further straining your neck, the pain should gradually fade.

Tips & Warnings
  • Head roll is a good exercise to loosen up neck muscles. Start with chin at your chest, slowly circle your head for five complete circles in one direction, and then do five the other way.
  • It's always a good idea to consult with your doctor before trying an alternative treatment, especially chiropractic.

on 3/9/2009 A better pillow also helps with neck pain, especially the memory foam pillow as it contour and supports the spine and neck better than ordinary pillows. Forget the cheap light pillows, they maybe cheap, but they are a totally waste of money.www.g2sleep.com
