The democratic convention is one Amazing process. Here's how the delegates vote from the floor.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Once on the floor the process begins with all delegates are required to formally cast their votes at the Convention, whether pledged or not.

  2. Step 2

    The voting occurs at the Convention in a number of different ways. It depends on the convention chair and what has been hashed out prior to the start of the convention.

  3. Step 3

    The most popular way that the delgates have been allowed to vote in the past is when the Convention Chair calls for a simple voice vote:

    Those in favor say 'Aye.'

    Those opposed say 'No.'

  4. Step 4

    Votes may also be conducted by a roll call vote of the states. This is done by either by telephone or other electronic means. After each roll call. the vote is recorded on sheets. These documents are given to the Convention Secretary.

Tips & Warnings
  • No secret ballots are allowed at any point for voting.
  • An alternate can be used if, but they have to vote for the pledged delegate.
