If your garden is overflowing with spinach - and you're getting sick of salads - lightly steam and freeze it for later use. Frozen spinach is great to have on hand for use in lasagna, manicotti, and your other favorite recipes.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • lots of spinach
  • quart-size freezer bags
  1. Step 1

Wash the spinach. Remember that the spinach will cook down a lot once it's steamed, so have plenty to freeze.

  2. Step 2

Place a steamer basket in a large stock pot and fill with water to just below the steamer. Bring to a boil.

  3. Step 3

Add spinach to the pot and cover. Let steam until the spinach wilts, about 1 minute.

  4. Step 4

Remove the steamed spinach with tongs and set it to cool in a colander.

  5. Step 5

When the spinach is cool enough to handle, fill quart-size freezer bags, label with the date, and freeze. Frozen spinach will last up to one year.

Tips & Warnings
  • Save time later by freezing the spinach in the amount called for in your favorite recipes.
