How to Update a Bathroom Affordably

Updating your bathroom doesn’t have to involve costly renovations. You can update your bathroom quickly and affordably with a few changes that you can do yourself.

Instructions

1. Choose a light colored gloss or semi-gloss paint for walls and ceilings. Pastels are a good choice for updating. Darker colors tend to make a room look smaller. If you choose paneling over paint, be aware that paneling can sometimes trap moisture behind it.

2. Replace a small mirror-faced medicine cabinet with a larger mirror over the sink that is flush with the wall. A larger mirror gives the illusion if a larger bathroom space and give the room a more modern look.

3. Clear off your sink and vanity areas. Less clutter will make your bathroom look cleaner and open up the area. For more storage area without using up valuable floor space, opt for small shelves or cabinets you can hang on the wall within easy reach.

4. Change old towel racks and toilet paper rolls. Check your local home improvement stores for affordable matched sets.

5. Replace the light fixture or add a new cover on the old one. Light covers and fixtures can be found at flea markets and garage sales very cheaply.

6. Updating hand towels and shower curtains is a quick and affordable way to change the whole look of your bathroom. If you have a window in your bathroom, hang a curtain or valance to match your new towels.
