You may like the look of silver or gray hair; however, the yellowing of gray hair is an unsightly problem. This yellowing occurs due to pigment loss, which makes other colors show up in hair more readily. Yellow hair is due to pollutants in the air, such as cigarette smoke and chemicals from pool water or commercial hair care products, all of which stain hair. Things You'll Need

  • Baking soda
  • Raw, unprocessed apple cider vinegar
  • Measuring spoons
  • Water
  • Bowl
  • Container
  • Blue or violet hair rinse (optional)

Instructions

      Place 1 tablespoon of baking soda in a container with enough water to form a paste. Wet your hair completely then apply the paste to the roots of your hair.

      Scrub the paste into your hair and scalp, using circular motions. Scrub all areas of your head including the crown, sides and back for a thorough cleaning.

      Pour 2 tablespoon of raw, unprocessed apple cider vinegar into a 12 oz. cup and add water. Rinse your hair with water then pour the apple cider vinegar mixture over the ends of your hair. Allow to sit for one to two minutes. Rinse out.

      Use a bluish or violet-colored hair rinse if needed to brighten your hair. Follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully to avoid a head of purple or blue hair.

Tips & Warnings

  • Cut down on smoking to prevent yellowing of the hair.

  • Avoid commercial shampoos and hair care products, both of which contain chemicals that can discolor hair.

  • Use raw, unprocessed apple cider vinegar on hair only as commercial versions can contain other additives.
