1
Determine the dimensions of your planter box. Most paint stirrers are about one inch in width. If you decide to do a foot-square box, you need 12 sticks for each side.
-
2
Place the paint sticks facedown on a table. Put one wooden slat across the sticks near the top, and one wooden slat across the sticks near the bottom. Attach the slats to each stick using a drill and screws. Repeat this until all four sides of the planter have been built.

3
Place one completed side flat on the table, then stand another next to it. Use a V-shape bracket to hold the sides together. You need two brackets, one each for the top and bottom, for every corner. Insert screws into the brackets, then move to the next side and repeat this until you have a freestanding box.

4
Paint the planter. Use a white outdoor latex paint and paint both the inside and outside of the planter.
-
5
Insert the planter box liner. This keeps the dirt inside the liner so it doesn't seep out through the sides of the box. Add soil and a plant.
