How to Change the Belt on an Oreck Vacuum Cleaner

One of the things that will keep a vacuum from picking up dirt as expected is a worn belt. Here is how to change the belt on your Oreck vacuum cleaner.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    Unplug the cord from the electrical outlet.

  2. Step 2
    Vacuum side view

    Look on the side of the vacuum's power head and remove the screw.

  3. Step 3

    Use a flathead screwdriver (or similar object) and lift the door so you can slide it forward.

  4. Step 4

    Remove the installed belt.

  5. Step 5

    Loop the new belt over the motor shaft ensuring one end is on the brush roll pulley.

  6. Step 6

    Rotate the brush 3 or 4 times to check the fit. You do not want any of the belt overhanging or loose fitting.

  7. Step 7

    Replace the door and the two screws. Tighten the screws and your vacuum should be ready for use.

Tips & Warnings
  • Oreck vacuum's come with long warranties. Check for your nearest Oreck dealer before performing maintenance yourself.
  • Never repair electrical equipment when it is plugged in.
