Decorate Your House for Fall
Decorate Your House for Fall

With fall comes chilly nights and sunny days. It also means autumn colors that have a hint of richness. When fall comes, put away the light and bright colors of summer and opt for the rich gold tones of autumn. Look to the outdoors to decorate your house for fall.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Begin with a colorful wreath. Check out your hobby stores for the fall colors, or pick up a grapevine wreath and add your own silk flowers and dried flowers. Look for the deep red eucalyptus leaves to stick into the wreath. Not only will it add color, but a nice smell. Place mums on the front steps in deep colors of fall.

  2. Step 2

Carry the theme of dried flowers into the house. Check with local gardeners to see if they dry flowers or have some you can dry yourself. Put away the items of summer and replace with vases of dried arrangements and pine cones. Check the local hobby stores for bags of the large cones.

  3. Step 3

Look around your living room. What can you do to pull in fall colors? Try accenting with toss pillows, throws, and candles. Not only will the colors bring in fall, but the items add a touch of warmth to the cool of autumn.

  4. Step 4

In the bedroom, change your light spread of summer for an autumn colored comforter. Add a throw at the foot of the bed, and candles on the night stand. Carry this theme into the bathroom with candles, fall potpourri and darker towels. The idea is to bring warmth into the home.

  5. Step 5

In the kitchen, consider accenting with apple items such as an apple canister set and red salt and pepper shakers. Look for something whimsical such as an apple clock. Look for an apple cookie jar and place it on the counter. Fall means home cooking. Check out discount department stores for fall oven mitts and dish towels.

Tips & Warnings
  • If your color scheme is blue, warm it up with darker shades of blue and deep cranberry
  • If you normally use yellows, try gold. Look for the warmer, deeper hues of colors.
  • Just adding a few touches to a room can make a difference. Look outside for ideas.
