    How to Entertain a Grandparent

  1. Step 1

Bring games to their home to play with them. Scrabble, puzzles and card games are good choices.

  2. Step 2

Bring something to read to them particularly if they have trouble with their eyesight. Choose newspapers, magazines, the Bible or classic books like Gone With the Wind.

  3. Step 3

Watch DVDs or VCR tapes of old-time movies with their favorite actors or comedy flicks to brighten their mood.

  4. Step 4

Engage your grandparents in their favorite activity. If your grandmom likes to crochet, crochet a scarf with her. If your grandpop is into woodworking, go out to his workshop and help him make something. Always try to bring the necessary supplies to prevent creating a lot of work for your grandparent.

  5. Step 5

Bring your pet for your grandparent to play with if they do not have allergies. Pets help lift people's moods so why not bring your cat, dog, rabbit or other small animal to bond with your grandparent.

  6. Step 6

Pamper your grandparent. If you are spending time with your grandmom, give her a facial, fix her hair or give her a manicure and pedicure. If you are with your grandpop, massage his feet, clip and file his nails or comb his hair.

  7. Step 7

Take your grandparents to their favorite place if they are healthy enough to go out. Go to places like the park, casinos, restaurants, bingo halls, craft making events or sporting events.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be careful not to overwork your grandparent. Consider the length of time you will involve them in an activity so you do not wear them out.
  • Be mindful of the weather and be sure to plan accordingly to keep your grandparent from getting sunburned or dehydrated.
