Does your child want to be a delicious cheeseburger for Halloween? Here is a simple way to accomplish this. With some more imagination, you can probably come up with your own extras, too.
Cut pieces of red felt into semicircle shapes. Glue or sew the flat edge of the pieces to the seams of the brown sweat suit, starting under the armpit to the end of the shirt. These are the tomato slices.
2
Cut pieces of green felt into semicircle shapes, but add some extra rounded cuts to make it look more like lettuce on the circle side. Glue or sew the flat edge of the pieces on top of the red felt pieces you just did. This, of course, is the lettuce.
3
Use the yellow felt squares for cheese. You do not need to make any cuts to the yellow felt. Simply glue or sew them on top of the green felt pieces.
4
Paint the two large cardboard circles a light brown color. You can just paint one side of each circle. Together these will be the cheeseburger bun. The side that you do paint should be the side that is facing out when the costume is assembled. Add dots of white paint on top of the light brown paint to make seeds, if you like. Let the circles dry.
5
Punch two holes in each circle near the top (on opposite ends) with scissors. Thread string through the holes in a way that the child wearing the costume can put the buns over his head and let the strings lie on his shoulders, like wearing a sign that hangs in the front and in the back.
6
Have the child wear matching brown sweat pants with the costume. The sweat suit is the meat patty. Black or brown sneakers work best, but any shoe will do.
Tips & Warnings
Add white felt to the costume for onions.
For added durability, sew the tomato, lettuce and cheese to the sweat suit, instead of using a glue gun.
Give your child an empty fast-food paper bag to place his treats into for Halloween.
Creative partygoers have often used pillows to stuff and fill costumes for any number of occasions, sometimes saving money over store-bought costumes....
