Before the grill is stored in the garage or covered up for the season, consider one last group cookout. Take advantage of the season’s best home-grown food. Making use of late summer and its bountiful harvests is a fun occasion.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Vegetables
  • Fruits
  • Skewers
  • Pans
  • Aluminum foil
  • Seasonings
  • Glazes
  • Oils
  • Beverages
  • Butcher paper
  • Pre-rolled tableware
  • Napkins
  1. Step 1

Invite family or friends for a casual get-together and have them identify what they will bring to your grilling party. Use that advanced knowledge to arrange a varied and tasty grilling menu, and have a series of skewers or pans ready to hold the food.

  2. Step 2

Go to local farm stands for lush late-summer products or choose your garden’s best fruits and vegetables for a tempting menu basis. Have seasonings or glazes/olive oils on hand to flavor food.

  3. Step 3
Use extras dishes to offset the main grilled items.

Use extras dishes to offset the main grilled items.

Offset those items with supplemental salads, a crock of soup, or grilled garlic/cheese bread. Fill in with pasta or seafood salads or experiment with a cold soup. Slice a baguette lengthwise on foil, drizzled with butter/garlic/Parmesan cheese and fresh basil. Have pre-mixed drinks on hand, like flavored lemonades or iced teas.

  4. Step 4

Set tables with butcher paper and centerpieces of fresh flowers surrounding by assorted jars of colorful olives, peppers or pickled tomatoes--accessorized with tools to easily fish them out. String small white lights through the tarps or umbrellas overhead, or enhance protective coverings with fresh-cut garden flowers for a festive atmosphere. Pre-roll tableware in absorbent paper or cloth napkins, knot together with long grasses, and include a fresh bloom in each roll; stack at intervals inside small metal buckets or clean ashtray-lined baskets. Buckets or baskets can later be used for smokers or other phases of cleanup.

  5. Step 5
Decadent desserts can be made from sauces and fresh fruits.

For dessert, consider adding chocolate sauces, honey/sugars or other extras over skewered fruit slices and wrap in foil.

  6. Step 6

Present each departing guest with a cluster of fall bulbs or gourds wrapped attractively.
