How to Wear Slimming Dresses
Whether you are 19 or 90, chances are you want your clothes to flatter your figure. Even if you are thin, a dress can sometimes make you appear heavier. The good news is that dresses can also provide slimming coverage, and enhance your best features. You just have to know how to wear them!

Assess you figure. Decide what body parts are you best features, and what parts you would like to hide, or at least diminish. Be brave and ask a close friend to give you her opinion of your best features as well. You will most likely be pleasantly surprised. Your friend might come up with several areas that you didn’t think of!

Wear A-line dresses to cover full hips. A key to slimming looks is balance. If you wear a dress with an A-line full skirt, be sure the top is at least a little fitted. People trying to hide their bodies will often wear a dress that is baggy all over, not realizing that such a look may make them appear larger than they really are.

Try an empire waist. The thinnest part of a woman’s body is directly under the bust line. Empire waist dresses (dresses that are fitted directly under the bust, and draped loosely down the rest of the body) draw the attention to this slim area, and provide good coverage of your stomach and hips.

Opt for a strapless dress if you are small busted, and like your shoulders. You can find strapless dresses that provide coverage for you hips, or are fitted at the hips, but a strapless dress with a free flowing A-line bottom is flattering for most figures. You would have to be extremely fit to pull off a look that is strapless and fitted throughout the entire body!

Choose a fitted jacket or vest with an A-line or full dress. People often think that they cannot wear fitted clothing if they have a thick waistline, but when paired with a flattering dress, the fitted jacket or vest will pull in your waistline. The balance of loose and fitted together achieves a very slimming look even if you feel you are heavy all over.

Consider wearing a '70s inspired dress with a blousy top and pencil or mermaid fitted bottom, if you are top heavy with a beautiful bottom-half. If you are self-conscious about your top-half, dresses with a blousy top provide slimming coverage. The look will draw the focus to your bottom-half, so go for that fitted mermaid look!

Show off gorgeous legs with a mini-dress. Make sure you are creating a balanced look or else you may look a little too exposed. Try a mini that has good coverage on top such as a blousy long sleeved mini-dress that is not low cut.

Tips & Warnings
Even if you have recently lost a lot of weight, avoid the temptation to wear a dress that is tight everywhere. You may be in fantastic shape, but the look can come off as cheap.
Be careful you don't wear an empire waist dress that has too much fabric below the bust. Maternity dresses have an empire waist too, so although the dress will flatter your stomach from the front, often times when you face sideways people may think you look preganant!
