Need a picture or an image for an article you’re writing? Or maybe you’d like a special picture to represent your avatar on your social network. Google image is the site for you. You can pretty much find any picture or image to suit your needs. Whatever the topic, Google image has millions of options. If you've never used Google image before--or even Google--then you need a primer. You'll see it's relatively simple to use the image portion of Google.

From Quick Guide: Google 101
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet connection
  1. Step 1

Log on to Google Image (see the link below in the Resources section). You'll see the colorful Google image and a search box in the center of the page.

  2. Step 2

Set the safety feature on Google image before you start your search by clicking on “Advanced Image Search Preferences,” which is located to the right of the search box. You'll see preference for "Strict," "Moderate" or "No filter." It's best to choose either "Moderate" or "Strict" rather than leaving no filter at all. To save your settings, click on the “Google Search” tab.

  3. Step 3

Type a word or phrase in the search box and click “Search Images.” The more specific you are, the closer you'll get to what you want. For example, if you type “apple” into the search box, you will get 120,000,000 images related to the word apple. If you type in “eaten apple,” you will get 332,000 images. If you narrow it down further with “red eaten apple,” you will 210,000 images.

  4. Step 4

Create a folder on your computer labeled "Images." Copy and paste the images you like into the folder.

  5. Step 5

Find the website below each image. If you are interested in the image and want to know its origins, copy the url that is listed below the image and paste it into a separate browser window to view the website associated with that image.

Tips & Warnings
  • Click on the image two times to see it in a larger view.
  • When you're done using the images, delete them from your "Images" folder so they don’t clog up your files.
