Do you have a car from which you have harvested most of its parts for use on another vehicle? Perhaps you took out the engine and put it in another car, stripped the transmission and sold it. Maybe even found a different automobile in which to put the seats. Left with the frame of the former car, you are also left with the question: "how to get rid of a stripped car"? There are a few options open to you, and in some cases you might actually make a profit on the deal. Depending on the make and model of your car, there is a good chance that you can rid yourself of the vehicle quickly.

Things You'll Need:

  • Car title
  1. Step 1

Turn on your computer and log on to the Internet. Visit the “Junk my Car” website and enter your information. Within 48 hours a towing company will contact you to schedule a pick up date and time for your stripped car. This is a free service, and you do not even need to have a title for the vehicle. The downside is that some contractors will not take a car that has been stripped of too many items they were hoping to harvest themselves, and in such a case they may charge you a bit of money. Make sure you find out ahead of time.

  2. Step 2

Check out the Cars for Kids website. This is a car donation service that auctions off intact cars as well as those that no longer run. Depending on how much you have stripped off your automobile, they may not be able to help you. It is a good idea to be very specific in your description of the vehicle when you enter the facts on the website. If your car does qualify, you need to have the title to it, and sign it over to Cars for Kids at pick up. The pick up is free, and you can take a tax deduction for the car.

  3. Step 3

Donate the car via the Junk-Yard website if you left the engine in it. You need to have a valid title for the transaction. Contact a representative of the organization and see if what is left of your vehicle qualifies for a free pick up and tax deduction.

  4. Step 4

List your car with a consignor. This works well if you only did a partial stripping and you have a desirable model that someone might want for the frame itself. Once an interested party is found, the consignor will act as the go-between and broker the deal. Since these businesses also do some advertising, you have a good chance at selling the car quickly. At the same time, keep in mind that you need to pay a percentage to the company.

  5. Step 5

Take out an ad on Craig's List to register the remaining parts or the frame. Depending on the make and model, there could be a few buyers for the car.

  6. Step 6

Locate your nearest junk yard. Borrow or rent a flatbed truck and haul your stripped car to the junk yard. You may be able to get some money out of scrapping the frame and whatever is left of the automobile.

Tips & Warnings
  • Remember that it is very important to ask detailed questions pertaining to any company’s or organization’s willingness to haul away a stripped car for free. Too often there are complaints that the tower will ask for money once the car is loaded and secured, and if the owner of the car fails to pay up, he is handed a bill for the service call to boot.
