How to Polish Aluminum Boats

If your aluminum boat is becoming dull and dingy, you can polish it up to a perfect shine. You can either choose to use a polishing machine or do the work by hand. With a machine, your aluminum boat may become damaged or scratched if the proper equipment or technique is not used. Polishing your aluminum boat by hand is the only sure method to avoid damage to the siding.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean your aluminum boat. You can use your pressure washer and a spray bottle of soap. Or you can hand wash it completely. Whichever method you prefer, you need to remember that the boat must be entirely free of grim, dust and dirt.

    • 2

Use a large towel and dry the aluminum boat fully. This is a must before you can apply the polish.

    • 3

Use Busch Super Shine Aluminum Polish or an equivalent product. If you choose to use another polish, make sure it is safe to use on aluminum. Otherwise, the product may end up scratching or damaging your aluminum boat. Busch Super Shine Aluminum Polish also is made to withstand corrosion which can occur in different weather conditions or when you are using your boat. For the sake of this article, Busch Super Shine Aluminum Polish will be used.

Decide on where you would like to begin polishing. When that has been determined, take your polish and place a small amount on your boat. This needs to be done in a straight line.

    • 5

Take a small soft cloth towel and begin rubbing the polish in with a circular motion. Once the polish is completely absorbed onto the aluminum, wipe or rinse it off with the hose. You will need to do this in sections until the aluminum boat has been fully polished to a bright shine.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure that no rocks or debris have found their way into any of your soft cloth towels. If a rock or other hard substance rubs against your aluminum boat, the boat will be scratched.
