Over time, silver jewelry can tarnish, giving it a dull look. You can restore the shine to your silver jewelry by cleaning it at home. You probably have most of the items you'll need already in your house.

  • Glass pan
  • Aluminum foil
  • Baking soda
  • Boiling water
  • Tongs

      Line the glass pan with aluminum foil.

      Heat a pot of water to boiling on the stove.

      Sprinkle the aluminum foil with a generous amount of baking soda.

      Place the jewelry on top of the aluminum foil.

      Pour boiling water on top of the jewelry, completely covering it. Shake the pan slightly and allow the jewelry to sit in the pan for five minutes.

      Remove the jewelry with tongs. Rinse it under cool water and dry with a towel.

Tips & Warnings

  • Pretreat jewelry that is severely tarnished with a paste of hot water and baking soda before dunking it in the solution of hot water.

  • If the jewelry has stones set in it and you are unsure of how they are attached, do not submerge your jewelry in the solution. Consult a professional jeweler for advice on cleaning your silver pieces.
