Over time, silver jewelry can tarnish, giving it a dull look. Fortunately you can restore the shine to your silver jewelry by cleaning it at home. You probably have most of the items you'll need already in your house.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Glass pan
  • Aluminum foil
  • Baking soda
  • Boiling water
  • Tongs
  • Towels
  1. Step 1

Line the glass pan with aluminum foil. At the same time, start a pot of water boiling on the stove.

  2. Step 2

Sprinkle the aluminum foil with a generous amount of baking soda. The larger the pan, the more generous you can be.

  3. Step 3

Place the jewelry on top of the aluminum foil.

  4. Step 4

Pour boiling water on top of the jewelry, completely covering it. Shake the pan slightly and allow the jewelry to sit in the pan for five minutes.

  5. Step 5

Remove the jewelry using tongs. Rinse it under cool water and dry with a towel. It should be free of tarnish and shining like new.

Tips & Warnings
  • For jewelry that is severely tarnished, pre-treat it with a paste of hot water and baking soda prior to dunking it in the solution of hot water.
  • If the jewelry has stones set in it and you are unsure of how they are attached, do not submerge your jewelry in the solution. Consult a professional jeweler.
