How to Dress Like an Olsen Twin

The twin Olsen sisters, Mary Kate and Ashley, have been world famous since their days as adorable and precocious tots on the hit sitcom "Full House." Since then, they not only have remained famous due to their burgeoning media empires and acting careers, but also because of their eclectic and bohemian fashion sense. Here are a few ways to emulate their often-copied looks.

1. Dress in layers. The Olsen twins are often seen wearing multiple layers of clothing, weather it's scorching hot July weather in Los Angeles or a brisk March day in New York City. One thin layer of clothing is never enough. For an Olsen twin, less is certainly not more.

2. Wear leggings. The Olsen twins are often spotted wearing leggings, usually black and very tight, underneath mini skirts. The leggings can be of any color, but for true Olsen twin authenticity a darker color like black or brown would be preferable. The leggings can be full length, but many times they are also spotted wearing Capri leggings, which end mid-calf.

3. Make sure you're always wearing a scarf. The Olsen Twins are often seen wearing large scarves tied around their necks. The large and bulkier the scarf, the better. And it doesn't matter what the weather is like, the scarf is about the style, not about the warmth factor. Bright colored scarves, like powder blue, are ideal. However, the scarves can be of any color.

4. Wear hoop earrings. The larger the earrings, the better. Bright, cheery, vibrant and loud hoop earrings are an Olsen twin staple. For an ideal Olsen twin look, the hoop earrings should be about 1-inch in diameter. Any color goes when it comes to these gaudy hoop earrings, but as stated before, colors like yellow or orange would be optimal.

5. Wear vintage boots! Tattered beat up boots, whether they're go-go '60s boots or Western cowboy boots are a great way to complete the chic, effortless, messy Olsen twin look. The boots are usually on the short side, meaning halfway up the calf instead of all the way up to the knees. Preferable colors are usually black, white, brown or beige.

6. Keep your hair messy and "unwashed" looking. "Bedroom hair" is perhaps a better way to put it. Finish your look with large, dark sunglasses--the larger the sunglasses, the better. You want your face to almost get lost behind the shades!

Tips & Warnings

• Wear a lot of vintage clothing from the '60s or '70s. The messier and older the clothes look, the better. If possible, mix in expensive designer pieces with thrifty vintage items for the most genuine Olsen twin look.

• Dressing like an Olsen Twin, in many, many layers, can often get really hot, especially in late spring and summer months. Be warned!
