How to Convert a Video File to WMV Format

Recent technology advancements have made sharing video a growing trend. With a few clicks and a high speed internet connection you can send video files around the world. While sending files is not a problem, playing the files can be an issue if the correct software is not used. This can make converting the files to a common file type such as WMV, Windows Media Video, a necessity.

      Open Windows Movie Maker, you want to use Movie Maker because it is a standard program on computers equipped with Windows and is easily compatible with Windows Media Player. Once your program is open, import your video file either by connecting your camcorder to your computer and selecting "capture from video device" or by using a SD memory card and selecting "import video" then locating the file on your SD memory disk drive.

      Once you have imported your video it should appear under the collection area. Click on the files and drag them into the video section on the timeline. Be sure to import the files in the proper order. They should appear in a format such as Clip0002, Clip0002 002 and Clip0002 0003

      Click file then select "save movie file once your video files are in the proper order and you are ready to convert them to WMV format. Select the designation of your choice, in this case choose my computer then click next. Name your file then choose which folder you want to save it in and again click next. On the next page click next again then the file will automatically convert. When it's done click finished and your file is successfully converted to WMV format.
