This treat bag is very easy to sew and you can whip up enough for a whole classroom in just a couple of evenings.     • Sewing machine
    • Green chenille bedspread
    • Black felt
    • Green felt
    • Yellow felt
    • Large black rickrack
    • Small black rickrack
    • Jute
    • Quarter
    • Pins
    • Scissors
    • Black thread
    • Ruler

        Cut two 6-inch by 8-inch pieces from the green chenille bedspread for the front and back of the treat bag.

        Cut one 2-inch by 8-inch piece of black felt for Frankenstein's bangs. Pin the bangs to a long edge of one green chenille piece. Edge stitch the bangs to the green chenille with the black thread.

        Trace two circles on the yellow felt, using a quarter for the pattern. Cut out for Frankenstein's eyes.

        Cut one 1-inch square from the green felt for Frankenstein's nose.

        Pin the eyes and nose to Frankenstein's face below the bangs. Edge stitch the eyes and nose to the green chenille bedspread with the black thread.

        Cut a 5-inch piece of large rickrack for Frankenstein's mouth and cut a 1-inch piece of small rickrack for a scar on the nose. Pin the mouth rickrack to the face and the small rickrack scar diagonally on the nose. Stitch the rickrack using the black thread.

        Cut two pieces, each measuring 1 1/2 by 2 inches, from the green felt for Frankenstein's ears. Pin a 2-inch side under the edge of the green chenille bedspread face just below the bangs. Layer the front and back of the treat bag with the wrong sides together.

        Cut an 18-inch piece of jute for the treat bag handle. Knot each end of the jute. Pin the ends of the jute between the front and back of the treat bag. Measure 1 inch down from the top of the bag and position the knots on the outside of the seam.

        Sew a 1/4-inch seam around the treat bag, leaving the top open. Backstitch at the beginning and the end of the seam.

    Tips & Warnings

    • If a green chenille bedspread isn't readily available, get creative by recycling other green textiles such as towels, tablecloths, draperies, or even throw rugs.
