How to Experience Griffith Park in Los Angeles
Griffith Park is one of the largest parks in the United States and is a must-see if you're in the Los Angeles area. You'll find activities for the whole family here and tons of wonderful plants and nature to enjoy. Griffith Park has been in the same spot since 1882 and covers about five miles. Have a picnic. Griffith Park has five picnic areas, one close to the old L.A. zoo and one with playground equipment. Pack a delicious picnic lunch and camp out for the afternoon. Or, find one of the many BBQ pits and cook some tasty food. You'll pay for parking once, so you might as well stay the entire day.

Check out the Hollywood Sign. This is one of the famous landmarks that Los Angeles has to offer and is worth seeing. It can be spotted from many of the hiking trails that Griffith Park has. You can find a map of hiking trails at the Ranger Station if hiking is your thing. Otherwise, head over to the Griffith Observatory; the Hollywood Sign can be seen from there.

Go into the Griffith Observatory and check it out. This planetarium of sorts will show you what the sun looks like at this very second, you'll learn about the moon tides and you can check out some of their other public telescopes to see the sun, planets and everything else in the sky. Show up at night to check out their biggest telescope.

Go horseback riding. You can rent a horse for the day at Griffith Park Horse Rentals. Griffith Park has plenty of trails for horses, and you can ride at whatever speed you want on these trails. The only rule is to stay on the trail. You can ride until sunset, because that's when these Los Angeles trails close.

Get some exercise. You can swim in Griffith Park's pool during the summer, you can play soccer on the John Ferraro Athletic Fields or your can play tennis in three locations. If you want to play soccer, make sure to call for a reservation ahead of time. With so many activities to partake in, Griffith Park will keep you busy all day.
