The Internet has made it possible for many creative and motivated parents to work from home while raising children. This is an excellent option for single parents who need a flexible work schedule while maintaining gainful employment.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Identify your talents and your skills. You will need to determine what type of work from home opportunities best meet your needs. Consider your educational and work history as well as your hobbies before determining if you will work from home for a company or start your own business.

  2. Step 2

Research both online and offline in order to locate the best work from home opportunities. Search for legitimate telecommute positions by reading online job boards, newspaper listings and other help wanted mediums. Apply for positions meeting your areas of expertise as well as your areas of interest. You also have the option of planning, preparing and launching your own home based business.

  3. Step 3

Once you have secured an employment or business opportunity, you will need to create a home office. Your home office should be an area of the house or a particular room where your children are not allowed to eat, sleep or play. A home office should have a computer, internet access, telephone and printer. Other supplies and office equipment needed will be determined by your employer or by the type of business you are operating.

  4. Step 4

Designate regular work hours. Working from home does generally offer some flexibility in terms of a work schedule for single parents. However, it is still essential to create regular work hours. Adhere to this work schedule as closely and as often as possible. Some telecommute positions require specific work hours which you will have to follow each week. You will need to plan your schedule and that of your children accordingly.

  5. Step 5

Determine what your children will be doing while you work each day. If you have school-age children, you should attempt to work during the hours that they are away at school. On the other hand, if you have young children, you will need to plan activities for them while you are working. Consider doing some of your work at night after your children have gone to bed.

  6. Step 6

Treat your at home job the same as you would any other job. Stay committed and motivated at all times. Always meet all deadlines and complete all tasks. If you have a task that you are having difficulty completing or completing on time, make arrangement for your children to go to a relative’s or friend’s house for a few hours until you catch up!

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not assume that you will never need to hire childcare as there will still be times when you need some extra help. This is especially true if you have an infant or young children.

on 2/26/2009 Good advice, but sometimes including kids in the mix isn't so bad, especially if it saves your sanity.

I have been working at home for about 7 years now but still have a hard time keeping my kids entertained while I work.Sandra****************************They're Accepting Applicationshttp://www.document-do-it-yourself-service.com/jobs.html
