Los Angeles is a very health-conscious city. With its mild and usually warm climate, it's not uncommon to see people power walking, jogging, swimming, or engaging in other outdoor sports there all year round. Vegetarianism is a very popular diet and lifestyle choice for many Angelenos. There are more vegetarian restaurants in Los Angeles than there are anywhere else in the United States. With all of those options considered, here are some of your best bets for fine vegetarian dining in L.A.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Dine at Elf Cafe on West Sunset Boulevard in Echo Park. Elf Cafe is a warm, bright, and friendly eatery with an equally warm, bright, and friendly staff. The menu is enticing with starter items such as the avocado tahini puree. The entree selection is also great, especially the Portobello mushroom sandwich and the vegetable torte. This is a relaxed and comfortable cafe with a sunny vibe.

  2. Step 2

Go to The Veggie Grill on Allied Way in El Segundo. The Veggie Grill is a friendly restaurant that specializes in vegetarian and "mock meat" dishes that mimic real meat such as barbeque seitan and mock chicken salad. The crispy chicken sandwich is perhaps the most popular item on the menu.

  3. Step 3

Visit HealthyCA on Lankershim Boulevard in North Hollywood. HealthyCA is a great place to get some authentically healthful food, at very reasonable prices. The portions are also large and filling. The vegetarian sandwiches here are absolutely wonderful, heaped with tomatoes and other vegetables. The quinoa and potato salads are also great dining options. As for dessert, be sure to check out the vegan chocolate chip cookies.

  4. Step 4

Eat at Vegan House on West Sunset Boulevard in Silverlake. Vegan House, serves up a great selection of both vegan and vegetarian meals. The "mock" beef, chicken, and seafood here are all made of tofu, but taste very close to the real thing. The curries available at Vegan House are also excellent.

  5. Step 5

Check out Vegan Glory on Beverly Boulevard in West Hollywood. Vegan Glory offers a large variety of tasty, healthful delights, such as the soy fish and crispy faux "chicken." The vegan tacos are also excellent and flavorful. This is an unpretentious place to get vegetarian comfort food at moderate prices. The portions are also large. Be sure to also try anything from the Vegan Thai selection.
