How to Fax a Document

Save

Faxing a document can be difficult if you don't understand the machine. However, once you learn to properly fax documents, you will realize how simple the process really is. In order to begin, you will need to have the fax number of the person or company to whom you are sending the document(s).

Make sure the fax machine is stocked with paper. It should be loaded in a tray at the bottom of the machine.

Place your documents face down in the tray atop the fax machine.

Enter the number of the intended recipient. Sometimes you may first need to enter a 9 or a 1, depending on if the call is local or long distance. If you are using a phone card for a long-distance phone number, enter the phone-card number first, followed by the number of the person or company to whom you are sending the fax. A dial tone will sound. As the fax machine connects to the number you dialed, it will emit a different tone.

Press the fax button. It's typically at the left of the numbers. The documents will slowly be fed through the machine. The window at the top of the machine will show that the documents are being sent and tell how many pages have made it through. When the process is done, the window will say that the fax was sent successfully. If it says there was a problem, you may have to repeat the process.
