Step 1
Print on both sides of your paper to avoid wasting it, particularly if you are merely printing things for your own reference and not to give to someone else. Try not to print documents when it's not necessary.
-
Step 2
Purchase recycled printer paper.
-
Step 3
Recycle your printer cartridges by mailing them to the manufacturer, using the envelope that came in the box. You can also take them to home-office-supply stores like Staples or OfficeMax. Most stores offer some type of credit or reward. Whatever you do, don't throw the cartridges away.
-
Step 4
Turn off your computer, printer and other accessories when they're not in use, to conserve energy. You might see a small savings on your electric bill, too.
-
Step 5
Recycle your old tech equipment when upgrading to new items. Again, do not throw the old equipment away and clutter up a dump with it.
-
Step 6
Purchase new equipment that is environmentally sensitive. Many technology companies are creating products that consume less energy.
-
Step 7
Donate equipment that you've outgrown (but is still in good shape) to nonprofit organizations in your community.
-
Step 8
Plant a tree to offset CO2 emissions from the equipment you just purchased. Some organizations like Dell offer the option "Plant a Tree for Me" when you purchase their equipment online. Take advantage of it if you do not have the ambition to do the planting yourself.
