How to Draw a Witch

Learn to draw a witch for all kinds of Halloween fun. These creepy, caustic hags can also add spice to any day of the year. Witches work well if you are mad at someone; just draw a witch with that person's name underneath (take it out later, of course). A few simple steps will help you draw a witch that is as kind or craggy as your imagination allows.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Draw two circles or somewhat circular objects to act as the eyes. Semicircles with a top slanted toward the center will give your witch a mean appearance. Open, full circles will make her a tad kinder. At the base of the two eyes, draw a hook-like protrusion to serve as her nose.

    • 2

Finish off her face. Draw a rectangle, crescent or some type of line to serve as her mouth. Below the mouth, draw a triangle pointed downward. Make a tuft of hair by drawing a series of connected, jagged lines. This gives her a perpetually bad-hair day.

    • 3

Top her head with a hat. Draw a thick line for the brim. Make a triangle coming off the top of the brim for the body of the hat. Put a bend in the triangle if you want her hat to be crooked.

    • 4

Illustrate her body with a triangle shape. Use the top point as the neck and the bottom line as the hem of her dress. Add two shapes on either side of the body for her feet. Make small protrusions on the sides for her arms.

    • 5

Shade it in. Witches are notorious for being dark and clad in lots of black. Her clothing and hair look good in dark black. You can color her face with a lighter shade than the black or go all out and pick a fine green hue.

    • 6

Throw in some details. A witch would not be complete without some teeth and a wart on her nose or chin. Add some lines as untied shoelaces so they can get caught on her broom while she’s soaring over Earth and spreading evil. Add a couple of twig-like arms below her sleeves and you’re all set.

Tips & Warnings

  • Witches are often seen with black cats, brooms, magic wands or standing around giant cauldrons. These are great accessories to add to your gorgeous witch.
