How to Use a Credit Card to Order Online
Using a credit card to order online has increased tremendously over the years since the Internet was introduced. Although some people have used this method for years, many have never tried and can become victims of scams. Choose the items that are being purchased and click on the box to proceed to Checkout. Check and see what type of credit card is accepted by the vendor and that you have one of those cards. Most major credit cards are accepted on the Internet.

When proceeding to Checkout, look at the bottom of your computer for the lock icon. If the lock icon does not appear locked, the site is not yet secure and any information sent will be able to be seen by anyone. Do not proceed until the icon is locked.

When the lock icon appears locked, look up at the address bar and make sure that the address starts with https. The "s" stands for secure site.

Fill out the information that is requested by the vendor for using the credit cards. You will need the type of card that is being used, the full name that appears on the card card, an email address for confirmation, the street address that the credit card company has on record, the credit card number and the expiration date that appears on the card.

Turn over the credit card, and on the righthand side will be a 3-digit code. This is the security code that is requested. When all of the information has been completed, click on the "Submit" icon and wait until the transaction has gone through. You will receive a confirmation, which should be saved to a file on your computer or printed. Many companies also send a confirmation email for your records.

Stop when given the option to complete the transaction by telephone if desired. When this message is seen, vital credit card information has not yet been entered into the computer. At this point, you may choose to call the company to give the final information to finalize the transaction.

Tips & Warnings
Never hit the "Submit" button twice on a credit card transaction. This can result in a double charge.
Many companies allow transactions to be paid with a credit card through PayPal, which has additional security measures in place.
Beware of fraud, including Internet fraud, at all times. Report any unauthorized use of your credit card right away in order to put a stop on the card.
