Murder Mystery parties are a lot of fun, and Halloween seems to be the perfect time to stage a Murder Mystery. If you have never held one before, you may be wondering how to get started on hosting.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Murder Mystery Kit
  • Tables
  • Chairs
  • Caterer or someone to cook
  • Costume
  • Decorations
  • Invitations
  1. Step 1

Shop around for a Murder Mystery kit. There are many online resources that sell complete kits, which is the best way to go. These kits usually come in themes, so choose one that you and your guests will enjoy. Each kit is different, and will require a different number of people, so read carefully.

  2. Step 2

Choose your location, date and time. Where will you have this Muder Mystery Halloween party? If it is a family event, for 20 to 30 people (the ideal murder mystery game number), you could host a Halloween Murder Mystery party at home. Choose the date and time as well.

  3. Step 3

Prepare and mail invites. Encourage your guests to RSVP. This will help you to hand out character assignments. Also, encourage each guest to come in costume, especially since this is a Halloween Murder Mystery party.

  4. Step 4

Assign characters when guests RSVP. Keep a list, and as guests RSVP, mark them down. Assign characters right away. Some Murder Mystery kit companies have an online system in which you can keep track of your guests and character assignements. You will want guests to have their character assignments about a week in advance, so they can read and study up on their character. This also helps them prepare to come in costume.

  5. Step 5

Study up on the "murder." You will probably need to enlist the help of a couple others to calculate how the murder will take place. Will someone just be "poisoned" at dinner? Or will the lights go out and a gunshot heard? Your kit will help you through this, but it is best to run through any steps ahead of time so that it will run smoothly.

  6. Step 6

Hire your caterer, or plan to prepare your own food. Whichever route you choose, you will need to plan your food selection. Shop ahead of time, and if you are cooking, prepare some things early so you have time to get ready for the party yourself.

  7. Step 7

Decorate. Jazz it up! The more decorative you can be, the better the atmosphere for a Halloween Murder Mystery party.

  8. Step 8

Welcome your guests, and enjoy the party.

Tips & Warnings
