How to Make a Reusable Dummy
If you're getting ready to make a reusable dummy for the first time, chances are it's for making clothes for yourself or a friend. This method is not elegant, but it is relatively easy, and this dummy works just fine for creating clothes that fit.
Things You'll Need
- Duct tape
- Heavy-duty scissors
- Fabric
- Cotton or polyester stuffing
- Long, old shirt

1
Ask a friend to be your "model" for the reusable dummy. Your friend should put an old shirt on over their usual undergarments. The shirt should be long enough to go over their hips. Ask your friend to stand with their legs together and their arms raised,

2
Cover the entire shirt with duct tape, beginning with long pieces; making the tape flat and form-fitting. Don't be afraid to get a few layers in some places, if that's what it takes to cover everything.

3
Cut the model out of the shirt. Cut in a straight line up the back of the old shirt. If you made sleeves, also cut a straight line up the arms.
-
4
Tape or sew the slit areas of the shirt together again. Tape extra fabric securely over the neck and arm holes. Stuff the dummy firmly with cotton or polyester batting, from the bottom of the shirt, making sure all the areas are filled out and not too squishy.

5
Stretch more fabric firmly over the open bottom of the shirt, and tape it securely in place. This is your basic reusable dummy.

Tips & Warnings
If you like, you can mount your reusable dummy on a stand. This is convenient for fitting long items like dresses.
Be careful not to stick the tape to your skin, as it could painfully rip your hair out. Also, be extremely careful with the scissors when cutting near the body.
