Instructions

    • 1

Disassemble the engine as much as possible. Hose it down to remove any loose debris and grime. Get it as clean as possible.

    • 2

Fill a large container with Evapo-Rust, a safe, biodegradable product that you can order online. Preferably you should be working in a room-temperature environment.

    • 3

Submerge the engine. Make sure all rusted parts are fully covered with the solution.

    • 4

Allow the rusty parts to soak anywhere from 2 to 24 hours, depending on the severity of rust accumulation.

    • 5

Remove the parts from the Evapo-Rust solution and see if all the rust is removed to your satisfaction. If so, hose down the engine again, washing off all the solution, loosened rust and debris. Buff the engine dry with a rag.

    • 6

Re-rinse the engine with Evapo-Rust for short-term protection until you are ready to paint with a long-term anti-corrosive. Or, you can immediately coat the engine with a long-term anti-corrosive to prevent future rust problems.

Tips & Warnings

  • Rust removal works best at temperatures above 50 degrees F.

  • Evapo-Rust has an unlimited shelf life and can be reused until completely spent. (It is spent once the liquid has become black and no longer works.)

  • Don't use Evapo-Rust as a long-term anti-corrosive. It will only last about 10 to 14 days. So don't forget to apply true rust inhibitors!
