How to Wear Regular Jeans While Pregnant

Just because you're pregnant doesn't mean you have to wear nothing but big t-shirts and sweatpants. You can still wear your favorite pair of jeans and normal clothing, with a few simple alterations in your later months of pregnancy.

Instructions

    • 1

Find a pair of jeans that you like. Make sure the jeans have some Lycra in them that allows the jeans to stretch a bit. Choose a size that is one size bigger than you would normally wear. This way you can grow into the jeans a bit, as you will likely put on weight in your butt and thighs as your pregnancy continues.

    • 2

Wear the jeans as normal for the first few months of your pregnancy. If the waist band is a little too big at first, simply fold the top down so it sits on your hips. Wear the jeans like this until you reach the middle to end of your second trimester.

    • 3

Cut off the top band of the jeans where the button and button hole typically is. Measure the waist band of the pants with a measuring tape or ruler. Purchase a stretch cotton fabric in a color close to that of the jeans. Fold the piece of stretch cotton in half.

    • 4

Measure a strip of fabric the same length as that of the waistband of the jeans. You want a fairly thick waistband, about 3 inches or so. With the stretch cotton still folded in half, place pin the cotton strip on the inside of the jeans. Leave the zipper in place.

    • 5

Sew the cotton stretch waistband in place with a coarse thread such as wire thread (not actually wire, just the name). Then hand sew a hook and eye closure below the stretch cotton line. Sew across the zipper line so you can still zip up as far as possible and hook the top closed.
