If you don't have the money to give to charity, there is a way that you can help even if you’re broke. In fact, there are multiple ways to help give to charities without even opening your wallet.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Volunteer to help others with something we all have: time. Most charities need a helping hand staffing their stores, dispensing meals or furniture and even serving food. A charity doesn’t always have the funds to employ as many workers as it needs. You can help by calling a charity such as your local Humane Society or Goodwill. Helping bathe animals or sorting through donations can be the charitable contribution that helps just as much as monetary donations.

  2. Step 2

Help charities with a process called "clicking." When you click on ad posted on a participating charity's website, the advertiser sponsors your click so that a specific portion goes to that charity. This way you are still donating funds via doing something instead of using your own money. You can even choose the type of charity you wish to donate to such as animal causes or environmental charities.

  3. Step 3

Purchase products at vendors that donate for you. Some stores donate to charities when you shop there. Target is a store that donates to schools when you use their credit card, and Good Shops has an online directory where you can purchase from the same stores you normally would, but a part of the money goes to charity. You still pay the same price; they are doing the donating for you.

  4. Step 4

Donate unused items to your local Goodwill or Humane Society. Many Humane Societies and all Goodwill stores have drop-off points where you can donate old clothes, books, furniture and more. These are items that the drop-off store cleans up and resells. The profits then go to their charity. Some places will even pick up larger items for you if you simply call them first. The Humane Society can always use pet items such as dog toys and food.

  5. Step 5

Donate old cell phones, glasses, hearing aids and ink cartridges. These are refurbished and used for charitable contributions. You can even donate a car, running or not, and have it picked up for free. These are auctioned off or given to a family in need.
