Raw-foodism is a relatively recent phenomenon that revolves around unprocessed, uncooked and organic foods. Basic staples of raw food diets usually include seeds, nuts, vegetables, fruits, fish, eggs, meats and dairy (unpasteurized). Raw-food devotees believe that the more raw food you eat, the healthier your body will become (stronger bones and healthier weight). There are a lot of people who follow raw-foodism in Los Angeles. As a result, there are quite a few raw-food dining options in the city. Here are some of your best bets.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Go to Cru on Griffith Park Boulevard in Silverlake. Located in the trendy Silverlake section of Los Angeles, Cru is an excellent and moderately priced place to get raw food. There are vibrant, flavorful dishes like the spicy curried squash soup, caponatta bruschetta, and channa masala (rich Indian stew). The meals at Cru span the ethnic gamut, with everything from Italian to "All-American" to Middle Eastern. This is a comfortable, tasty, and welcoming way to eat raw food.

  2. Step 2

Dine at Juliano's Raw on Broadway in Santa Monica. Juliano's serves up everything from macadamia-nut "cheese" to cleansing smoothies in flavors like blueberry. There is a large variety of raw pastas available here, and they are all delicious. The desserts are good, especially the apple pie. The prices are also very reasonable at Juliano's.

  3. Step 3

Check out Seed Live Cuisine on Posetano Road in Pacific Palisades. The mantra of Seed Live Cuisine is to create food that works in harmony with nature. The food is absolutely scrumptious and tastes even more delicious when you think about how good it is for your body. Some favorites include the buckwheat flax crepes, Spanish chili soup and sweet cream raspberry swirls.

  4. Step 4

Eat at Real Raw Live on West Franklin Avenue in Hollywood. Real Raw Live is a wonderful place to get smoothies and frozen yogurt. There are excellent organic juices available here. You can even get a wellness shot here if you're feeling less than stellar. This is the ultimate place to recharge and relax raw-food style. The pre-made organic sandwiches are also tasty.

  5. Step 5

Visit Leaf Cuisine on Ventura Boulevard in Sherman Oaks. Leaf Cuisine is an excellent place to fill up on heaping, delicious salads. The meals here are refreshing, like the "raw-sagna" (raw lasagna) and the mock tuna salad. The veggie burgers are also great. With a sunny atmosphere, friendly staff and large portions, what's not to like about Leaf Cuisine? This is a must-visit for raw-food followers, vegetarians and vegans in Los Angeles.
