For many people, decorating for Halloween is as exciting as decorating for Christmas, and zombies are a great way to decorate your yard for Halloween. Children and adults alike will enjoy your Halloween display as they trick-or-treat around your neighborhood. Here is a guide to making a zombie for a Halloween yard display.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Old shirt
  • Stuffing
  • White latex gloves
  • White pipe cleaners
  • Scissors
  • Needle and thread
  • Black balloon
  • Dowel rod
  • Duct tape
  • Zombie face mask
  • Dirt
  • Cheesecloth (optional)

    Making a Zombie

  1. Step 1

Stuff the old shirt with the stuffing. If you don’t have stuffing, you can use fallen leaves. You want to stuff it full enough so it will stay propped up on its own.

  2. Step 2

Stuff the white latex gloves with stuffing.

  3. Step 3

Trim the pipe cleaners so they are short enough to fit in each finger of the gloves.

  4. Step 4

Place one trimmed pipe cleaner in each finger of the gloves. This will allow you to arrange the fingers in a claw-like position.

  5. Step 5

Stitch each glove onto the end of each sleeve of the shirt. The stitches don't have to be neat, but they should be secure.

  6. Step 6

Blow up the black balloon. Using the duct tape, tape the balloon to one end of the dowel rod.

  7. Step 7

Place the dowel rod down the back of the stuffed shirt so the balloon is sticking up out of the shirt. The balloon is now the head of your zombie.

  8. Step 8

Place the zombie mask on the balloon.

  9. Step 9

Position your zombie in your yard where it will be visible to people passing by. Arrange the dirt around the zombie so it looks as if it is climbing out of the ground.

  10. Step 10

Secure a piece of cheesecloth around the zombie’s head to hide the balloon, if you wish.

Tips & Warnings
  • Unfortunately, there are people who enjoy stealing zombies. Use inexpensive materials when possible.
