How to Study for a GED Online

Getting your GED (which stands for general education development) is equivalent to earning your high school diploma. When applying for a job, the employer will ask if you have a high school diploma or a GED. This is important to get a job. To study for the GED exam, you can take an online course through your community college or take a GED prep company's online course.

    How to study for a GED online

  1. Step 1

    Take a practice test. This is usually offered through various GED websites like mdc.edu. You will be tested on high school subjects such as social studies, science, writing, reading and math. This test will analyze the results and show you what your weak subjects are.

  2. Step 2

    Apply for an online GED course. There are a number of GED courses available online through various websites including passged.com. There are also a number of online GED courses available through community colleges. You can call them to register for the online course and to ask questions about the course.

  3. Step 3

    Request an online tutor. The tutor will communicate through email or instant messaging to help you with any questions you may have regarding the GED course.

  4. Step 4

    Pass the assignments. There will be assignments to prepare you for the final test. You'll finish the course by completing these assignments.

  5. Step 5

    Take a practice test. This will help you to determine your progress in the course. If you pass the test, you're likely to pass the GED exam. If you don't pass you may need more tutoring and you'll want to refresh your memory by retaking the lessons.
