How to Make a Pumpkin Man
Autumn is the season that brings in the final harvest of pumpkins. All shapes and sizes become available during this time of year. Decorated pumpkins--either carved or painted--can be found everywhere. It is a great time to become creative. Try something new. Creating a pumpkin man is similar to making a snowman, but he is made out of pumpkins. It will be a real treat for anyone who comes across him. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- 1 Large Pumpkin
- 1 Medium Pumpkin
- 1 Small Pumpkin
- Knife
- Spoon
- Sand
- Measuring Tape
- Mop Pole
- Glue
- Permanent Marker
- Nail
- Hammer
- 2 Sticks
- 1 Pair of Gloves
- 1 Hat
- Straw

Gather 3 large pumpkins. Make sure that they are different sizes and widths. There should be a large pumpkin for the bottom, a medium pumpkin for the middle and a smaller pumpkin for the top. Clean the pumpkins to remove any dirt and grime.

Using a tape measure, measure the total vertical length of all 3 pumpkins. Cut a mop pole to match this measurement.

Working with the largest pumpkin, use a knife to cut away the stem. Cut a round hole in the top of the pumpkin. The hole should be approximately 4 inches in diameter. Remove as much interior pumpkin meat and seeds as possible with a spoon. Place the mop pole into the hole. Fill with sand or dirt.

Cut away the stem on the medium size pumpkin. Cut a round, 4 inch (in diameter) hole in the top. Also, cut a 4 inch hole in the bottom of this pumpkin. Remove the pumpkin meat with a spoon. Place the pole through the pumpkin until it is sitting on top of the larger pumpkin. Glue can be used to hold these together.

Cut away the stem and make a 4 inch hole on the top and bottom of the small pumpkin. Clean out the meat and seeds. Slide the pole through the pumpkin until it is resting on the medium pumpkin. If desired, glue in place.

Use a large nail to drive a hole into each side of the medium pumpkin to insert arms. Insert a stick into each hole and attach a glove on each for hands.

Draw a friendly face on the small pumpkin with a permanent marker. Buttons can also be drawn on the body of the pumpkin.Place a hat on top of the small pumpkin. Tie straw in between the small and medium pumpkin for a scarf.

Tips & Warnings
Make sure that the largest pumpkin on the bottom is heavier than the rest of the pumpkins. This will prevent it from falling over.
Glue buttons on instead of drawing.
Use a carrot for the nose and coal for the eyes.
Give the pumpkin a theme by changing hats such as a cowboy hat or a pirate hat.
Never let a child handle a knife, especially when cutting a pumpkin.
