Many chords that are played on other stringed instruments can also be played on the ukulele. An advanced chord that can be played on the ukulele is the Faug chord. The Faug or F augmented chord is most commonly played in the key of F. When playing in the key of F, the Faug will normally follow the F chord. This chord can also be seen as the F+ (F plus) chord on sheet music or chord charts.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Hold the neck of the ukulele in the left hand near the string spacer. Rest the ukulele neck between the left index finger and left thumb. Keep the left thumb behind the first bar of the ukulele neck. Place the right arm over the front of the ukulele body and hold underneath the center of the ukulele body with the right hand.

  2. Step 2

Move the left index finger to the first bar between the string spacer and first fret. With the tip of the left index finger, hold down "C" string. Using the same finger, also hold down the "E" string on the first bar directly underneath the "C" string between the string spacer and the first fret.

  3. Step 3

Use the tip of the left middle finger on the "G" or top string located on the second bar between the first and second fret. Keep the left thumb behind the first bar. Let the left ring finger rest on the left middle finger keeping it away from the strings and frets.

Firmly press down on all of the assigned strings keeping them between the frets and away from unassigned strings. Using the right hand, strum gently over all of the strings near the center of the ukulele body to hear the Faug chord.

Tips & Warnings
  • The soprano, concert and tenor ukulele strings are assigned G, C, E, and A from top to bottom.
  • Baritone ukulele strings are assigned D, G, B, E.
  • The "string spacer" is located at the top of the ukulele neck and is used to separate the strings along the neck of the ukulele.
  • A "bar" is the section located between the frets.

  • Keeping the fingers on the bar and away from the frets or unassigned strings will help to produce a clear sound of the Faug chord.
