How to Draw Jimmy Neutron
Jimmy Neutron is a 3D character. Still, he can be effectively drawn in two dimensions, if you know how to shade with colored pencils. It's best to start with a quality set of colored pencils, which use traditional colors as umber and ochre. A flesh colored pencil is also handy. The more colors your pencil set has, the better. Also, you will achieve better results by using drawing paper with a high rag content.

Set up Jimmy Neutron's head and body lightly in graphite pencil. Draw an egg shape for the upper part of his head. Draw a sideways oval for the lower part. Overlap the two shapes slightly. Then, draw another egg shape for the body. Draw guidelines down the center of both the upper and lower portions of the face. These lines should curve in the direction that the face is pointing.

Add Jimmy Neutron's eyes as ovals, then draw in his nose, mouth and lower lip. Draw the arms in segments. Draw the palms as simple circles or slightly ovular shapes. One eye should be slightly larger than the other. Draw the legs as simple cylinders with a slight curve. Then, add the upper part of the shoes. Draw a divider line across the waist.

Draw Jimmy Neutron's hair in the shape of a soft serve ice cream cone. Draw the eyebrows, one higher than the other. Draw the eyeballs and pupils. Put in the basic shape of the ear. Then, draw the shirt and the fingers on the hands. Draw the cuffs of the blue jeans, and then the laces and soles of the shoes.

Draw some lines to indicate the dimensions of the hair. Give the hands a more natural shape by creating curves between the fingers and at the wrist. Add the curved shapes inside the ears. Then, draw the atom design on Jimmy Neutron's T-shirt. Go over the final lines of the drawing with a fine point black permanent marker. Be careful not to trace any line which should not appear in the final picture, such as the guidelines on the face and any overlapping marks. Allow the ink to dry for several minutes.

Erase any pencil lines which are still showing. Use colored pencils to color Jimmy Neutron. To create a 3D effect, darken the outer edge of objects, such as his shirt, hair and jeans on the outer edge first. Then, use gradually decreasing pressure with the colored pencil to create an effect of gradual shading. Use a flesh colored pencil for the face and arms, using firmer pressure in shaded areas.

Shade the hair and eyebrows with burnt ochre first, using firmer pressure in shaded regions. Draw the lines in the direction of the growth of the hair. Go over the lines with dark brown or burnt umber. Create streaks to indicate the hair texture. Use the same colors to color the shoes, using firmer pressure at the bottom and side edges of the upper shoes. Color the soles dark brown, with firm pressure.

Tips & Warnings
Use light to moderate pressure with your colored pencil when first getting started. Go over the area again and gradually increase pressure to darken the area.
Create a shadow, directly under Jimmy Neutron's chin and shirt.
