How to Use a Credit Card to Call Japan
Dialing Japan can be a complicated and costly process. However, in recent years, the method for calling distant countries has become much easier. Now instead of simply knowing the overseas code and dialing, you can enter your credit card information and have the phone call billed directly to your credit card instead of your phone account.

1
Contact your telephone service provider and get the international calling access number for Japan. A phone company will have a different code for each county. These help ensure your call is routed properly. The standard routing code to Japan is +81. Your telephone service provider likely will give you an additional code number.

2
Enter your seven-digit access code for Japan into your phone’s keypad. Wait for a digital voice to pick up. You will be given an option to continue in English or Japanese. Press the button that corresponds with the language you prefer to use.

3
Punch your credit card number into the phone’s keypad when you are prompted to do so by the automated operator. Some companies will also require the card’s expiration date, so have the credit card handy to ensure your accuracy when typing.

4
Be prepared to enter a personal identification number into the keypad after this step. Not all carriers require this, but yours may. Consult your phone carrier beforehand to set up an account with a PIN number. This is set up primarily to avoid fraudulent and costly overseas charges.

Push the phone number you are trying to reach in Japan when you are prompted to do so by the automated operator. Include the area code, as it will be impossible to connect your call without one. Allow a moment for the connection to be made and then wait for the other party to answer the phone.
