How to Make Earrings From Old Coins

I absolutely love the coin earrings my husband made for me years ago. They are lovely, and I still get compliments on them. If you have old coins and wonder what to do with them, this project is perfect. Coin earrings make great gifts or to sell at craft fairs. It can also be a way to showcase a rare coin that you don't want to part with or sell. Follow the steps below to make these very attractive earrings.

Things You'll Need

  • 2 Old Coins
  • Earring Hooks
  • Metal Punch
  • Drill
  • 1/16 " Drill Bit
  • Knife
  • Plyers
  • Beads
  • Craft Wire
  • Wire Cutters
  • Lay the coins on a towel. Sit this on top of a work bench or table.

  • Use a metal punch. Punch the top of each coin to make an indentation in each.

  • Drill a hole in each coin. Do this by using the indentation on each as a guide.

  • Scrape the inside of each hole with the tip of a knife to smooth the edges.

  • Insert a piece of craft wire into the hole on each coin. Make sure that just a small piece of wire comes through.

  • Twist the end of the wire to attach to the coin.

  • Add a couple beads to the wire on each coin.

  • Twist the wire above the last bead to hold in place.

  • Create a small loop in the wire on each earring.

  • Cut off excess wire.

  • Add earring hook to the loop for each earring.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use more beads for a longer earring or leave off beads for a short earring.
  • Don't leave these earrings lying around the house. They are gorgeous but fragile. Treat them like rare and valuable pieces. Put them in a safe and protected jewelry box when you are not enjoying them.
