How to Make Your Own Recyclable Mop
Modern mops now consist of a plastic handle, which connects to a head that fits custom-made pads. Older mops are stands of string or absorbent fabric. Regardless of how often you clean, the pads and cloth eventually need to be thrown away. This is wasteful and can be prevented if you create your own mop that can be washed and reused. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Find a scrap piece of plywood. It doesn't have to be painted or sanded into a cylindrical shape. You will probably only use it for 10 minutes anyway. It should be at least 3 to 4 feet tall so you don't have to bend over and break your back while you are cleaning.

2
Purchase a yard of fleece fabric. You'll use this to create the mop head. Measure the perimeter of the plywood with measuring tape or a ruler to see how wide the piece of fabric needs to be. Mark the width with chalk on your fabric. This will be the width of your mop head. Then measure and mark the length of the mop head, which can be 12 inches long.

Use scissors to cut out your mop head. After you have cut it out, cut out 1-inch strips so it has fringe. Leave at least 1 to 2 inches at the top of the mop head so you have room to put the Velcro.
-
4
Place the Velcro on the inside of the mop head. Then place the other part of the Velcro on the outside of the plywood. This will enable the mop head to stick to the plywood. After you use the mop, you can detach the mop head and wash it in the washer.

5
If you already own a plastic mop that uses absorbent pads, cut out squares of fleece fabric that you can use in place of the absorbent pads. This prevents you from having to purchase more pads and throwing them away.
