Garages are more prevalent today than ever before. In older homes, the garage is sometimes closed in to make another room in the home. Properly venting this area of the home will help in utility costs even if the garage is not closed in. A garage with an overhead door needs to be vented. Ridge vents are a popular choice in venting an attic or garage because they can be hidden underneath shingles at the ridge of the roof. Venting a garage is an important step in saving money.

Stretch the chalk line from one mark to the next. Pull it tight. Pop a chalk line to be cut with the skill saw. Repeat this on the other side of the ridge. You may have to pop shorter distances if the chalk line is too short.
