An accounting technician is a financial professional in the United Kingdom responsible for keeping accurate business accounts.       Obtain a degree in accounting in the United Kingdom. You can obtain accounting training from the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) or going to traditional university. You can either obtain your qualification through a regular diploma or by going the NVQ (National Vocational Qualifications) route. This may take two to four years of training.

      Apply for an apprenticeship in the United Kingdom's apprenticeship program once you have begun your accounting training. This program may allow you to start an entry-level position to learn real-life experience not available through universities. Apprenticeships may be for six months to one year.

      Obtain training through the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA) if you do not want to apprentice or go through the Association of Accounting Technicians. This route has three steps for completion. They include: CAT Introductory Level, CAT Intermediate Level and the CAT Advanced Level.

      Expect your starting salary to start at £15,000 to £19,000 a year. With more experience, you could earn around £19,000 to £26,000 annually.
