Step 1
To join a military book club, first you need to find one that suits your interests. Just take a look on the Internet, or even watch for mailings. Subscribe to things that pertain to military traditions or history. An easy one to find is called, aptly enough, the Military Book Club. Just go to its website and sign up. The Military Book Club caters to all aspects of American and international military history and arms and equipment.
-
Step 2
To sign up for the Military Book Club, as with most other book clubs, you will need to provide your name and address. You will also need a credit card or checking account to pay for your new books. Most of these clubs have special offers when you join up. Typically, you get so many books for one low price and then after that you can start choosing books from the club's catalog at special club prices.
-
Step 3
Sign up with the Military Book Club and you will usually receive your first five books for only a dollar. The selection is considerable. Choose from among all different things of military interest. You can read about the Civil War or World War II. You can discover new facts about ancient armies, or learn about the latest high-tech weapons systems. The Military Book Club even provides the appealing feature of not forcing you to buy more books automatically. Once you have fulfilled your original commitment there is no further obligation. It does not automatically send out new titles as do many other book clubs.
-
Step 4
Watch your favorite TV documentaries that have military themes. Just check out their listings and buy DVDs of programs that have aired on channels such as the History Channel or the Discovery Network. These DVDs bring military history to life. Watch films of actual conflicts or live life with the soldiers themselves. You can even explore the images of long ago battles and watch as military experts talk about strategy and tactic against the backdrop of historic buldings, battle sites, and paintings of famous generals. Film can be an excellent way of seeing as well as imagining what things were really like.
-
Step 5
Share your passion with others. Many of these clubs offer discussion groups and even tours to military historical sites. Go on a trip. Meet others like yourself. See firsthand what you have only read about it or seen on TV. Speaking and interacting with others, if only over the Internet, can broaden your horizons, as well. Others may know things you do not. They may introduce you to whole new fields of interest. Keep looking. Try searching on a specific war or time period. You will find there are many military book clubs out there with different areas of interest.
