Autumn is a season that brings a dazzling display of nature with vibrant, warm colors. Trees begin to turn yellow and red while grass starts to dry and turn brown. It is also the time for the final harvest before the winter months arrive. Autumn is the only season where decorating outdoors is not only practical, but is easily accomplished using the tools that Mother Nature makes available.

Gather several bales of hay that are wrapped and tied. Pick an area on the lawn where they will be placed. Place the bales on the lawn creating several layers that can be climbed on or sat on.

    Pumpkins

Gather several pumpkins of different shapes and sizes. Using a permanent marker, draw happy faces on each of the pumpkins and tie a ribbon around the stems. Put one pumpkin on each of the steps leading up to the front door.

  4. Step 4
    Chrysanthemum

Place a chrysanthemum plant into a large plastic pumpkin. Make several of these planters and place them in front of the house. Chrysanthemums are great autumn plants that have large, colorful flowers.

  5. Step 5

Rake the lawn of all the fallen leaves. Bring the leaves together and make a large pile in the front yard. Place several pumpkins on top of the leaf pile.

Tips & Warnings
  • Instead of drawing happy faces on the pumpkins, draw festive welcome signs.
  • Place a scare crow on top of a pile of leaves.
  • Tie bunches of Indian corn together and hang from trees.
  • Due to Lyme Disease, always check for ticks when working outdoors and raking leaves. It is especially important to check children for ticks when they are lying in piles of leaves.
