Getting an item autographed from a professional hockey player can be a little tricky, but is well worth it. Most professional hockey players are more than happy to sign autographs for fans, but it is important to remember they are people, too. Respect their personal time if you intend to ask for an autograph on the street.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Marker or pen
  • Item to sign
  1. Step 1

Purchase an item you want autographed. Some popular items to have professional hockey players sign include jerseys, shirts, sticks, programs, tickets and player cards. You can buy most of these things at the team store located inside most arenas.

  2. Step 2

Carry a marker with you to games. If you happen to catch a player before or after a game, you can ask him to sign your item. Most hockey players do not carry markers with them unless they are at a sanctioned autograph session.

  3. Step 3

Look on the team website to see if the team plans to have a sanctioned autograph session. This is the easiest way to meet professional hockey players and get autographs. Some team autograph sessions will include the entire team, so you can get many autographs at once.

  4. Step 4

Ask the player nicely for an autograph. Nothing will make a signing go South faster than a rude fan. Show respect when you meet the player, as they are doing you a favor to autograph items. This is especially true if you happen upon a player in a venue other than the ice rink.

Tips & Warnings
  • Check with the local professional hockey team to find out when the team has autograph nights. This is the easiest time to get a player to autograph an item.
  • The most popular brands of markers and pens for autographs are Sharpie and Stadler.
  • Don't interrupt a hockey player during a meeting or meal to ask for an autograph. Some fans will do this because they are so amazed they saw their favorite player off the ice, all they can think about is getting an autograph, and they don't think about the what the player is doing currently.
  • Don't ask for multiple autographs. Even if you are at a sanctioned signing event, only ask for one signed item. Remember, the player is doing you a favor by signing something for you, so you are better off not pushing your luck asking for many items to be signed.
