Things You'll Need:
- 5 dice per player
- 1 plastic cup per player
- Flat playing surface
-
Step 1
Gather a group of friends together to play a game of Liar's Dice. The minimum number of players for a game of Liar's Dice is two, and the maximum number of players is 10. The ideal number of players for a game of Liar's Dice is between four and eight players.
-
Step 2
Give each player five dice and a plastic cup. Instruct each player that, when he or she rolls his or her dice, he or she should keep them covered with the plastic cup.
-
Step 3
Direct each player to roll his or her dice, and to keep his or her own dice covered. A player is allowed to peek at his or her own dice under his or her cup. Let players know that the dice values are two through six, with ones being wild and considered to be the face value of the bid.
-
Step 4
Choose a player and ask them to make a bid. Bidding in Liar's Dice involves announcing a value of the die (between two and six), and the number of dice the player thinks there are at the entire table displaying that number face up. The player only knows how many of that number he or she has, so any bid above that is speculation. An example of a bid is "six twos." That is saying the player thinks there are at least six twos at the table face up on the dice.
-
Step 5
Continue bidding around the table. Each player in turn can increase the bid or call the previous bidder. To increase the bid, a player must either increase his or her prediction of the number of dice for the face value called before, or increase the face value of the die. As an example, if the current bid is six twos, the new bid must either be seven or more twos, or some number of threes, fours, fives or sixes. If a player "calls," that means he or she thinks the player before him is incorrect with his or her bid. This results in all the dice at the table being revealed. If the number of dice for that face value is equal to or higher than the bid, the player that called loses one of his or her dice. If the number of dice for that face value is less than the bid, the bidder loses one die.
-
Step 6
Continue playing around the table by starting a new round. Each player rolls his or her dice and covers them. The starting bidder is the player that lost a die on the previous round.
-
Step 7
Continue playing until only one player has dice left to roll. A player is eliminated from the game when he or she has no more dice remaining. The last player with dice remaining is the winner.
