How to Vacation at the Signature at MGM Grand

The Signature is an elegant hotel of suites in adjoining towers at the back of the MGM Grand property. With its private, gated entrance and separate lobby, the Signature offers a quite escape from the crowds in the casino and noise of the Las Vegas Strip, while still providing easy access to all the excitement the MGM Grand has to offer. All suites include luxury furnishings and kitchen appliances, marble bathrooms, flat-panel TVs and a wealth of amenities. Learn how to vacation at the Signature at MGM Grand and get the most out of your stay.

Keep key cards with you at all times. Entrance to the Signature property via the MGM Grand requires your key card, and you also need it to access the Signature pools. This is what helps keep the Signature safe and secure, so NEVER hold open the door for anyone who isn't showing their key card. An intercom system allows you to call security for assistance if you've forgotten your key.

The Signature property is connected to MGM by a series of walkways. Moving sidewalks are available to help ease the distance, but as with all of Vegas, they aren't always operational. Once you reach the MGM property, there's a whole mall of stores and restaurants to walk through before you reach the casino and theaters. Save your feet and wear good walking shoes whenever possible.

Each tower has its own pool, which means a lot less traffic and more opportunity for serenity. Bring money for tips as there is poolside cocktail service. The large towers can create a big sun block depending on the time of day, so check out the pool in advance to find the right time for sun tanning or relaxing in the shade.

The Signature adds a mandatory "resort fee" to the price you're already paying for the room. This fee covers wireless internet, the fitness center, two free water bottles per day, local and 800-number calls, in-suite coffee and the daily newspaper. Making local calls on the room phone may save you roaming charges on your cell phone, and you can look for theater ticket deals online using your laptop and the wireless Internet. There's bottled water available in the fitness center, so there's no need to bring your room bottle down with you.

    • 5

Bring your iPod and favorite CDs and DVDs. The Signature suites offer an iPod dock and a CD/DVD player to use with the flat-panel TV. Take a break from the strip and enjoy a movie from the comfort of your king-sized bed, or listen to your iPod as you get ready for a night on the town.

Cruise the casino in the late morning if you want your pick of the slot machines or tables. Drop by late in the evening if you're looking for the excitement of crowds and lots of action. Be aware that the slots in Vegas, particularly in the big casinos like MGM, don't pay out as often as your local riverboat casinos. Decide on a set amount you're willing to spend and, once it's gone, move on to one of the many other Vegas distractions.

See a variety of shows without leaving the MGM property. There's always something to see, with comedy shows, musical performers, magicians, cabaret dancers, Cirque du Soleil and sporting events available. Check with the Signature concierge to book tickets for shows during your stay, or visit each theater's box office. Often you can buy tickets last minute for performances that day if you prefer spur-of-the-moment planning. Don't forget to check out the glass-walled lion habitat, where mostly female lions interact with each other and awestruck onlookers.

Eat at the MGM Studio Café or grab a quick bite at Starbucks. Dining in Vegas can get pricey, especially at such high-end MGM restaurants like Wolfgang Puck and Joël Robuchon. The Studio Café is along the edge of the casino and, unlike most of the other eateries, offers 24-hour service. With quality food options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, the café has a pleasant environment and more reasonable prices. Starbucks is just off the Signature lobby and offers coffee, tea and snacks without breaking the bank or having to leave the property.

    • 9

Visit the MGM pool complex, which is closer to the Signature than to the MGM hotel. Follow the walkways from the Signature to the MGM Grand. As soon as you pass through the doorway to the MGM property, turn left and head to the pool area. Five pools, three whirlpools, a river on which you can float in an inner tube, waterfalls and tropical foliage await you. Pool and river times and availability vary by day, season and weather conditions, so be sure to check ahead of time so you won't be disappointed.

Use the Las Vegas monorail. Turn right after leaving the Signature walkways and move partway through the MGM mall. Keep an eye out on the left for the monorail station entrance. Tickets are available at manned booths, at ticket vending machines and online. The monorail takes you behind the casinos down the length of the strip, starting at the MGM Grand and ending at the Sahara. Buy a multiride or multiday pass if you plan on exploring all of the Vegas strip. The traffic on the street often makes a cab ride impossible, and the monorail is a lot faster and easier on your feet than walking.

Tips & Warnings

  • Store your valuables in the in-room safe, but be sure to remember your code. Entering the wrong code can permanently lock the system and you'll have to call security to come up, verify your identity, and open the safe for you.

  • Valet park your car. Arrive any time in your car, as the Signature offers 24-hour valet parking and bell staff to help you with your luggage.
