When selling products on the Internet, or acting as an affiliate for product owners, you must know who the target market is and where to find them. Marketing to the wrong crowd won't get you any sales, no matter how good the product is. You must know how to find targeted Internet traffic to successfully make money selling online.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Design a website to sell your product. Post articles, blogs and web content relevant to the product. Use keywords and key phrases, called SEO (Search Engine Optimization), to rank higher in search engines. This allows uses searching for those words to find your website. These articles can also be sent out to article directories with links back to your site to reach even more users.

  2. Step 2

Use pay-per-click advertising to market your product. This puts an advertisement and link for your product on other sites with related keywords, and you only pay when someone clicks on your link. Making sure you have the correct key words and a good pay-par-click ad is a must to ensure you are targeting the right crowd.

  3. Step 3

Partner with another person selling a relevant product or service and share customers/lists. This is sometimes called a joint venture or affiliate marketing, depending on the details of the agreement. For example, if you are selling an ebook on how to train dogs, you can partner with someone selling dog products. You both benefit because any traffic he gets will be targeted for your product also (the traffic will include people interested in dogs).

  4. Step 4

Give part of your product away for free or a deeply discounted price to a select few people. Send your product to people who are leaders in a particular niche and have the power to influence many others in that niche. Allow them to review your product and get a buzz going in anticipation of the release of the entire product.

  5. Step 5

Create an opt-in box on the first page, or every page, of your website. This captures the name and email address of everyone who signs up. This list of email addresses can receive follow-up emails reminding them of your product, future products and other interesting information about your niche. This is a great way to get back-end sales.
