Soda will not only introduce one’s body to unnecessary caffeine but will also yellow your teeth, and all of the empty calories will pack pounds on your figure. Giving up soda is a great start to changing to a healthy diet. The long-term benefits of giving up both regular as well as diet soda can help extend your life.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Locate all soda beverages within your home and set them on the counter. Pour all soda down the sink drain and recycle the cans and bottles, or give all of your soda to a friend or family member. With no soda in the house, it is impossible to give in to a craving at home.

  2. Step 2

Mix up a pitcher of Crystal Light or other light powdered drink. Place the pitcher in the refrigerator and allow it to chill. Serve yourself and your family Crystal Light over ice when the desire for a soda occurs. Include all family members in the home to join the effort to resist soda.

  3. Step 3

Drink the recommended amount of water daily. Eight 8 ounce glasses per day is best for optimal hydration. Fill a portable beverage container full of ice and water before leaving the house. Having a cold drink on hand will curb a desire to stop and purchase a soda when you leave home.

  4. Step 4

Talk to friends and family members about supporting your efforts to live more healthfully. Encouragement from those close to you will help wean yourself of the desire to consume caffeine regularly. Exercise each day for at least twenty minutes to help your body achieve a natural euphoric feeling without the heightening affects of the caffeine.

  5. Step 5

Drink 100% whole fruit juice after you have consumed the necessary eight 8 ounce glasses of water each day. Juice is more filling than water, but should not be consumed as a main source of your beverage needs. Drinking juice on occasion will introduce assorted vitamin content into your diet.

Tips & Warnings
  • Read labels to determine the nutritional content of all beverage options.
  • Many beverages contain as many or more empty calories and caffeine as soda, so make informed and healthy choices based on nutritional value.
