There are numerous peer-to-peer sharing websites and programs out there to choose from. Bit Torrent is one of the most trusted of these programs. Bit Torrent can be used to download your favorite music, TV shows, movies and even software programs. Like most peer-to-peer programs, Bit Torrent is a relatively simple program to download, install and run. After playing around with it for about a half hour or so, one can become an expert.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Log onto the Bit Torrent home page to download the program (see Resources). Like many programs, Bit Torrent can be downloaded from numerous third-party websites. To be safe, though, go to the official Bit Torrent web page. Click on the green “Get BitTorrent” box found on the home page and then the purple “Get BitTorrent” box on the next page to begin the download.

  2. Step 2

Install Bit Torrent after the download has finished. As with any installation, you can choose which components to install (such as shortcuts) and which to not install. After you've finished installation, run Bit Torrent.

  3. Step 3

Select “Get Stuff” found at the top of the program. This is where you'll find the Bit Torrent “search engine.” From there, choose an option from the drop box (Movies, TV, Music or Games). This will open an internet browser with different files for you to choose from.

  4. Step 4

Click on the name of the file you wish to download. For most of these downloads, you will need to register with Bit Torrent as the files are not free. The registration page will appear when you click the “Buy” tab. You will need to create a sign-on name and enter your personal billing information.

  5. Step 5

Use a torrent search engine to locate and download torrents. Mininova is an example of one of these websites (see Resources). Once there, search for torrent files by using Mininova in the same way as you would Google. Find the exact song, movie or other file you're searching for and then click on it. Once you've done this, click on the “Download this torrent” link and Bit Torrent will automatically open. Choose where you want to save the file and the download will begin.
